Why it matters to you
Gemstone's point is that less time on complicated wiring means more time on what you actually see: the fit, the finish and where each light sits. In Gemstone's words, you probably won't notice the difference by looking at your lights, and that's the point.
Gemstone also says new products and features will be built on the 48V system, so a system installed today is designed around what comes next. Gemstone trains its authorized dealers on the 48V system in-house.
What Gemstone hasn't said yet
Gemstone hasn't published details on converting existing 12V systems, so if you already have Gemstone Lights, ask us before assuming an upgrade path.
