Two-storey house with bright white lights along every roofline under a stormy sky

What do Gemstone Lights cost?

Gemstone doesn't publish prices, and no honest dealer can give you a number without seeing your house. Here's what the cost depends on, so the quote makes sense when you get it.

The short version

What sets the price

The cost of permanent lights mostly follows the length of roofline you want lit. Everything else, from the yard to the deck, adds to that in proportion to how much of it you light.

  • How much of the house you light

Gemstone says the cost of its track lighting comes down to two things: the number of linear feet you want lit and the local market rate for installation. More roofline means more track and more lights.

  • Landscape and flood lights

Gemstone prices these by the size of your yard and the number of lights you need. A couple of uplit trees costs less than a whole garden and driveway.

  • Deck and stair lights

The size of the deck, how many lights you want, where they sit and whether they join a system you already have.

  • Patio string lights

The size of the space, the number of bulbs, the layout of the runs and whether there's already a Gemstone system to add to.

  • Businesses

Commercial jobs are priced on linear footage, the layout of the building and the scope of the project.

  • Doing it in stages

You don't have to do everything at once. The front can go in this year and the back, the deck or the yard later, all on the same app.

Running costs

$52.80

a year to run an average home, by Gemstone's numbers

Gemstone's example house has 117 linear feet of roofline and needs 150 lights. Each light draws at most 1 watt on full bright white, so running them 6 hours a day comes to about $4.34 a month at 16 cents per kWh.

Your own number depends on your power rate and how long the lights are on. Colours and dimmed settings use less than full bright white.

No surprises

What you won't pay for

  • A monthly app fee. The Gemstone Lights app is free on iPhone and Android.

  • Holiday patterns. Autopilot's event calendars cost nothing to subscribe to.

  • Putting lights up and taking them down every year. They stay on the house. Permanent lights vs yearly Christmas light installation

  • Replacement lights under warranty, or our time fitting them. Roofline and deck lights are covered for life, the rest of the system for 10 years, and LK's labour for 10 years too (rental gear like a lift is the exception). Warranty details

Why won't you give a price online?

Gemstone sets no list price, and every house is different. The total depends on how many feet you light and what you add, so we measure first and then give you an exact figure.

Is the quote free?

Yes. There's no charge for a quote and no obligation to go ahead.

Are there ongoing costs after the install?

Power, which Gemstone puts at about $4.34 a month for an average home, and nothing else on a regular basis. The app has no monthly fee and the Autopilot calendars are free.

Yes. Gemstone's warranty comes with the lights. You only need to register the system within 30 days of installation for it to apply.
