Transform Your Home with Permanent Outdoor Lighting
LK Installations · · Updated
Permanent outdoor lighting changes how a house looks every evening, but the process of getting it is fairly simple. If you’ve never had it done, it helps to know what happens and when. Here is how it goes with a Gemstone Lights system installed by LK Installations.
1. Get in touch
Call (250) 203-3266 or send the quote form. Tell us roughly what you’d like lit: the front of the house, the whole roofline, the yard, the deck. Photos help if you have them. The quote is free and there’s no obligation.
2. The quote
Gemstone prices its track lighting on two things: how many linear feet of roofline you want lit, and the local rate for installation. It doesn’t publish prices, so we measure your house and give you an exact figure. If you’d like landscape, patio or deck lights as well, those are priced by the size of the area and the number of lights. The cost page explains each of these.
This is also the time to ask about permits. Gemstone says whether you need one depends on where you live, and leaves it to the local dealer to advise. We’ll tell you.
3. Pick a track colour
The track is the slim aluminium channel the lights sit in. Gemstone makes it in more than 150 colours, so we match it to your soffit and fascia and it fades into the house during the day. It fits wood or aluminium trim and sloped soffits, and it can go in alongside pot lights you already have.
4. Install day
Gemstone puts most home installs at a day or less. A bigger or more complicated house can take longer, and the quote will say so.
On the day, the track goes up first. On most houses one edge slides under the L-trim on the fascia and a screw painted to match holds the other side. Then the lights go in, one every 9 inches, each with its own sealed, waterproof connector. The wiring stays out of sight.
The control box is about 8 by 11 inches and plugs into a regular outlet. It usually goes in the garage attic or on an outside wall near the roofline.
5. Switch-on and setup
Before we leave, we connect your phone to the Hub2 controller, set up your account and Wi-Fi, and show you around the Gemstone Lights app: how to pick a pattern, set a sunset timer and subscribe to Autopilot calendars if you’d like the lights to handle the holidays by themselves. Each controller has its own QR code, so there’s no chance of connecting to a neighbour’s lights.
6. Register the warranty
Gemstone needs the warranty registered within 30 days of installation, in the app or on its website. It’s quick, and it’s the one thing you shouldn’t leave for later. Your permanent outdoor lights are then covered for life, with 10 years on the rest of the system. Full details are on the warranty page.
After that
There’s nothing to put up or take down, ever. Most people settle into warm white on ordinary nights and colour for holidays and game days. If you want to add to the system later, patio, deck and landscape lights all join the same app. And if anything ever needs attention, call us first.
